The problems every small law firms knows.

Billable hour tracking is still a spreadsheet

You log time in a spreadsheet, calculate manually, build the invoice in Word, and email a PDF — then chase payment 45 days later. Every matter. Every month.

Retainer reconciliation takes hours

Tracking which clients have retainer balances, how much has been billed against them, and when to replenish is a manual accounting exercise that should be automated.

Sharing sensitive documents is a security risk

Sending confidential legal documents over email has no audit trail. You have no record of when the client opened a file or whether they actually reviewed it.

Built for how small law firms actually work.

Every feature designed around your specific workflow — not bolted on.

Billable hour tracking → invoice in one click
Log time directly against a matter or client. When billing, OnBrio generates the invoice from your entries — descriptions, rates, and totals — automatically.
Retainer billing and trust accounting
Set up retainers once. OnBrio tracks the balance, bills against it automatically, and notifies you when it needs replenishing. No manual reconciliation.
Secure document portal for every client
Each client gets an encrypted, access-controlled portal for agreements, briefs, and reports. Full audit log: who opened what, and when.
Engagement letters with e-signature
Send professional engagement letters and fee agreements with legally binding e-signature built in. No printing, no scanning, no PDF email chains.
Online payment via Stripe
Clients pay invoices online by card or ACH. Payment is collected faster, reconciled automatically, and receipts are sent without you lifting a finger.
Matter and revenue overview
See which matters are most profitable, which clients have outstanding balances, and your projected revenue for the next 90 days — at a glance.

FAQ

Common questions.

OnBrio supports the core requirements for small firm legal billing: itemized time entries with descriptions and rates, trust/retainer accounting, UTBMS-style billing codes can be added as custom fields, and full audit trails on all invoices and documents. OnBrio is not a dedicated legal practice management system like Clio — it is best suited for small firms and solo practitioners who want a simpler, more affordable alternative.
Yes. Each client can have a retainer set up with an opening balance. As you bill time against that client, OnBrio deducts from the retainer balance automatically. You are notified when the balance drops below a threshold you define, and you can send a replenishment invoice with one click.
Each client gets a private portal accessible via a secure link. You upload documents and they receive a notification. Every document access, view, and download is logged with a timestamp and user identifier. Documents are stored with encryption at rest and in transit. For highly sensitive matters, you can require the client to set a personal access PIN.
Yes. You can create engagement letters, fee agreements, and NDAs using OnBrio's document editor, then send them for legally binding e-signature. Each signature is recorded with the signer's name, email, IP address, and timestamp. A signed PDF is automatically emailed to both parties and stored in the client's portal.
The Solo plan is $29/mo (billed annually) and covers unlimited clients, billable hour tracking, invoicing with online payment, retainer billing, e-signatures, and the client document portal. For small teams of 2–5 attorneys, the Agency plan at $69/mo adds multiple seat access and advanced automations.
